Mia had a blast with Grandma and Grandpa Nuffer this past weekend. We went for ice cream down at Channelside, sushi at Jackson's, breakfast at La Creperia in Ybor, as well as cheered on the Bucs with a little BBQ at our place.

Mia Celebrates Her 2 Month Birthday...

...with a round of shots! Not Jose Cuervo, but immunizations (Mommy may need some tequila though after this doctor's appointment).

It was so sad. I cried a teeny little bit when she got the vaccinations. I HATE needles. It's not easy watching your baby's cute, chubby little thighs getting stabbed over and over. On the plus side, looks like Mia's immune system is good to go. She is asleep on my chest now. We learned today she IS indeed colicky. Nothing much we can do about it (tequila) but pray she grows out of it soon, which she should. Other than that, Mia looks very healthy and is developing wonderfully. She is 23-1/2"L (WOW) and 11lbs.

Last weekend was full of fun - we had a lovely visit from Grandma and Grandpa Nuffer, went on many adventures and took lots of neat pictures. I'll post those soon. It was great to see Lori and David. We are sad to see them go, but very much looking forward to meeting up again in May.

Baby's Day Out

Woo-hoo! We left the house today! And it wasn't just to go to the doctor! Keri came by and the 3 of us went and had lunch up at International Mall. Mia did so well. She was wide awake for most of it, taking all the strange sights and sounds in and loving it. She fussed a little when we got our food, but no biggie. But by the time we left she was over it and letting everyone know. I just laughed all the way back to the car, under the watchful eye of many super South Tampa mommies and their fancy pants Kate Spade diaper bags.

Yesterday was a different story. I went in for my post-pregnancy check-up and Mia did not want to be there. No way, Jose. It started in the lobby. She was fine once I scooped her up and paraded her around on my shoulder. Then my name was called and she wouldn't let me put her down, so I got my blood pressure and iron levels checked with her in the right-handed monkey clutch. She wailed the whole time I submitted a urine sample. I'm sure everyone in the lab got a good earful, oh well.

And when it was time for my exam, well she didn't want to sit in her carseat. I was mortified but had to hold her on my chest with my legs up in stirrups, otherwise she was screaming bloody hell. One of the nurses held her so I could get dressed. The best part is, as we were leaving there was a young couple, as well as a few other soon-to-be mommies out in the waiting room, staring at me and my hysterical baby, terrified. "Look what you have to look forward to!" I can't wait for this phase to be over.

On the way out of the office the front desk handed me a letter my doctor typed up for insurance/disability purposes. I think this one is going in the scrapbook:

Marisa had a separation of the symphysis pubis, postpartum hypertension, elevated liver enzymes, a persistent urinary tract infection and a fractured coccyx.

When Mia is 14 and telling me she hates me, I'm whipping this document out. Oh yes. Matter fact, she'll get a copy with every birthday card.

Uncle Drew Rules!

Andrew has been terrified of holding Miss Mia (he is a little accident prone), but finally today he faced his fears! And he was so good at it, I let him hold her while I ate lunch - it was nice to be able to use 2 hands! It takes forever to update the blog with only my right arm, that's why there's not a lot of type, mostly just photos. Pete and I have perfected what we call the right-handed monkey clutch, though I feel some carpel tunnel setting in...

How pretty is she? Anyway, to any moms out there - here is Mia sporting one of my favorite purchases, baby legs. They slip on separately like leggings so you can easily get those diapers off and on. Case in point - today I took the little booger up to HSN to show her off and say goodbye, and of course the first thing she does is take a terrible, horrible dump. People were coming up saying HOW CUTE!!! and make that STINKY TOO!!! So in this situation it was convenient to changer her so quickly. They come in fun colors and patterns and make for really cute photo ops.

Oh and P.S. - thank you Mia for being so good for everyone today! She was even handing out smiles like it was Christmas morning.

Here she is again, a few seconds short of pitching a major fit. I believe Monkey is going through a growth spurt, I dunno. I placed her down here to take some pics, but most of the time she'd rather just be held. I find this incredibly sweet and incredibly frustrating. I'm extremely limited to what I can do in a day, especially with a baby that only likes to nap in my lap. But I hate to hear her cry. Since she is so little still, it's important to not let her cry or feel scared and alone, so I'm always there picking her up. In a few months I'd like to help her learn how to self-soothe and be more independent. I am VERY MUCH looking forward to this time!

Fun with Boppy

Mia loooves her Boppy Activity Gym - it's comfy, colorful and super-cool. It even comes with a dragonfly that lights up and plays fun songs! Which makes me wonder, how on earth did Mary get by without cutesy, over-priced junk like this for Baby Jesus? I mean, surely there had to be a Fisher Price Safari Bouncer somewhere in that stable. Was Baby Jesus colicky and in need of Mylicon Gas Drops? Hmm....
