Future Meteorologist?

We sat on the porch and watched the rain fall this afternoon. Mia thought it was super cool. I could see the wheels turning in her head.... Mommy, where does rain come from? What is rain? Will it rain forever?

I couldn't stop staring at her and thinking how much she's grown.

Such a pretty girl.

George Carlin Has a Good Point Here

This must be old, since George has also passed away, but a lot of truth here.

What a difference a sad event in someone's life makes.(His wife recently died...) Isn't it amazing that George Carlin - comedian of the 70's and 80's - could write something so very eloquent...and so very appropriate:

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill.

It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete...

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever. Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent. Remember, to say, 'I love you' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away..

Silly time

How Could I Forget? Here's Last Week's Pics -

This was one of those days she didn't think she needed a nap.

Playing at the park last Friday.

Weeeeeeee!

Mom!!!!! Standing by myself is super scary!!!!!

The apple does not fall far from the tree.

Mia - 1.
Mom's black bean soup - 0.

Some days, Mia is hardly ever tired....

A Few Things ....

1) Mia is 11 months, 1 week and 5 days old. Just typing that makes me break into a sweat. This time last year I really had no idea how complex and incredible parenting really is. Or how much you can do all at once very quickly on very little sleep. Or how much you can truely, deeply, madly love and adore a child (and said child's awesome Daddy).

2) I'm taking Mia Moo to the zoo tomorrow and am so excited! Of course this is all weather and attitude-pending, so we'll see. If all goes well I'll snap a few pics and post them.

3) For any crafty peeps out there, this blog rocks. And I LOVE what she wrote about sewing. She's dead-on. Anyway, I haven't made anything in over a week - decided to take a breather, for all the reasons she mentions in her blurb. I do have a new project. I'm just terrified to screw it all up and never want to sew again. I'm hoping to get around to it sometime this week.

4) Project Runway is tomorrow.

Mia is THIS CLOSE to walking!

Okay so she holds onto the couch and to the crib and walks around. I mean, I don't even think she realizes what a big deal this is. Granted she looks like drunk Elvis, but still. She even lets go for a sec but always falls and decides crawling is a much easier form of transport. It's only a matter of time before she takes those first few unassisted steps.

I think the most excited I've gotten is earlier today - we walked across the room together (we practice this A LOT) but instead of holding and balancing with my hands, she lightly held onto my pants. I mean, lightly. And she was such a pro.

What am I supposed to do when she starts walking? I guess I'll figure it out. I asked myself the same thing when she learned to crawl. Anyway, this is a fun stage. I can't imagine her being any bigger, talking and playing and singing and dancing. Brandi said Lexi is taking cheerleading and gymnastics (she's 3). How did she get so big so fast? Little people are awesome to have around.

Cute as a Button

Mia is modeling one of my latest creations.

She looks pretty darn cute in it, don't ya think?

She likes the dress too. What she does not like is this weird Adams Family chair.

Get me out of this chair, Ma. Like NOW.

There we go. Much better!
Oh and WOW. Time for someone's first haircut, maybe?

Pulling up to standing is way cool. So much more I can reach!

But sitting is fun too. So are toes!

The look I get when I sing her The Wheels On the Bus. Her absolute favorite song.

My Little Teething Monkey

Huh? Who you callin' a monkey?

You so silly!

How Pete Found Us the Other Day

Passed out.

Little Van Gogh

Okay so Mia painted some art for a Father's Day gift with non-toxic acrylics. We wanted to give Daddy something he could put up in his upcoming garage/office/man cave.

We had a little bit of a clean-up afterward.

But it sure was a lot of fun.
